On Site Art is an artmaking program for adults with no fee or registration.    The first year was in Port Alberni, BC. The drop in sessions started in 2014 in a variety of public spaces in Nanaimo,BC

In 2016, On Site Art moved to the North Nanaimo Branch of the Vancouver Island Regional Library.

In 2017,  a new group started up all year round at the Harbourfront Branch of the VIRL.  The original group met in Study Room #2 in the NN Library between Jan.- April for 2 years. The two groups exhibited their artwork in the gallery at the North Nanaimo Library in April from 2017 - 2019.

Looking for a new place to paint in the public in 2020, the On Site Art program moved to the Island Roots Market every Wed. from Jan.- March,  when lockdowns began due to COVID-19.

The program is open to anyone interested in painting in public spaces and open to the possibility of conversation with the public, while they work. Artists bring their own artmaking projects and materials. The host of the original group is Diane Rae.  While this is not a class, it is a group that shares art info and interested n experimenting with new concepts and styles.  There is no competition with other local art groups because some of the participants belong to a number of arts organizations.
